Support Worker - Family Support Services Program

With the supervision and support of the Family Support Services Program Manager, and in partnership with the Ministry of Social Services, this position plays a key role in supporting the integrity of the family unit and the rights of children to live in a safe home. The goal is to maintain the family unit or support the reunification of children with their families, when and if, it is safe to do so. Support Services concentrate on parenting, daily living skills, personal wellness, and accessing community resources. Tasks may include transporting clients to in-town and out-of-town appointments, working on specific parenting skills, personal wellness, home management goals, assisting children to access enriching activities, and helping them maintain family and cultural connections.

Preferred Qualifications: 

•  Postsecondary education and/or experience in the human-service filed is preferred. Salary will be based on a combination of education and experience.
•  Use of personal vehicle (including additional insurance) is required with compensation.
•  Criminal record check with vulnerable sector query.
•  Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
•  Knowledge of child development, parent-child relationships, family dynamics, parenting skills, and Aboriginal cultures.
•  Demonstrate a confidential, caring, supportive approach that maintains the dignity and integrity of people receiving services.
•  Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with others within and outside the organization.
•  Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with individuals and groups.
•  Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.

Wage:  To commensurate with education and experience

Education:  Grade 12

Experience:  1 – 2 years

Support Worker - Supportive Independent Living Program

With the supervision and support from the Manager of Supportive Independent Living Program, this position plays a valuable role in enhancing the quality of life for people with cognitive disabilities.  The Support Worker will provide support services to clients based on their person-centred plan so they can live independently and be participating members of the community.  

Support may include managing their home, nutrition, hygiene, medical and health needs, budgeting, shopping and managing money, making effective use of leisure time, participating in recreational activities, establishing a support network within the community, and utilizing community resources to achieve their person-centred goals.
