Student Practicum, Internship, and Co-Op Opportunities

CFS Battlefords accepts practicum, intern, and co-op students from post-secondary institutions across Saskatchewan/Canada.

"My practicum experience at CFS Battlefords provided me with a safe environment for learning and working with clients.  My practicum supervisor was amazing, she encouraged me to focus on the importance of self-care, healthy boundaries, and relationship building with my clients. I am grateful for the opportunity and trust this organization has placed in me, thank you!"

- Jamie Couillonneur, Counselling Intern

"As a student in the learning phase, I felt truly supported during my practicum placement at CFS Battlefords. Many of the staff and management had once been practicum students themselves, and this understanding was reflected in the encouraging and inclusive environment they fostered. The open-door policy, along with a strong culture of team collaboration and peer consultation, created a space where I could ask questions, share ideas, and receive valuable feedback. This collective support helped me grow both professionally and personally—faster than many of my peers in other settings. I was also given the opportunity to work with individuals from diverse populations and backgrounds, which enriched my experience and gradually helped me overcome the initial feelings of impostor syndrome. By the end of my placement, I felt confident, competent, and ready to pursue a fulfilling career in my field. Thank you, CFS, for your unwavering support and mentorship throughout this challenging and rewarding journey."

 - Christopher Arsenault, Counselling Intern

"Obtaining a practicum placement at CFS Battlefords was a transformative experience that truly exceeded my expectations. I easily completed my required hours while gaining invaluable experience with a diverse clientele and addressing significant mental health needs in the community. CFS provided a thoroughly collaborative learning environment, excellent supervision, peer support and mentorship that formed and guided me as I continued to develop my skills and identity as a counsellor. I appreciated the opportunity to engage with other programs at the agency and benefitted from the flexibility that was offered to suit my lifestyle and ways of learning. The positive work atmosphere, driven by leadership that prioritizes staff wellness, ensured that I was equipped to effectively support my clients while maintaining and enhancing my own well-being. I treasured the encouragement to walk in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation through cultural learning opportunities and participation in community events. CFS is a place where aspiring students can find their place, flourish, and make a meaningful impact."

 - Laurie Lastowsky, Counselling Intern

"During my practicum at CFS Battlefords I was able to work with a diverse population of clientele, which allowed me to apply and improve my counselling based skills, and comfortability with different counselling modalities.  CFS offered not only a knowledgeable and supportive counselling team, but also gave insight to the multiple different programs offered by the agency. CFS strives to be open to all, and this mentality allowed me to continue to grow my cultural competence, not only through the counselling experience, but also through the many cultural and community events the agency partakes in.  CFS provided ample opportunities for shadowing, supervision and consultation, all of which supported me in building my confidence as a new counsellor."
